Charles Wang, Translator and Guide
Born into a farming family in 1968, Charles was raised in the rural
countryside of China. Hoping to provide Charles with opportunities
beyond farming in their small hometown of 1,400, his parents
exhausted every resource to support his education. At the age of
nineteen Charles successfully passed the national entrance
examinations and became the first college student in his hometown in
history.
In 1990 Charles graduated from Anhui Normal University with full
honors. After several years of teaching at Huizhou Teacher's College,
which has now been upgraded to Huangshan University, he returned to
school earning his Master Degree in English Literature from BISU
(Beijing International Studies University). Due to his enthusiasm for
teaching and love of his students, Charles has become a sought-after
teacher.
In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Charles has dedicated himself
to sharing with others the bounties of China’s landscape and culture.
Beginning the late 1990s the spectacular landscapes of the Yellow
Mountains and rich Huizhou culture began attracting millions of
tourists each year. To assist with the growing need for English
interpreters, Charles became a nationally certified tour guide. Since
1991 Charles has led over 100 tours, guiding people from all around
the world. Because of his fluency with English and knowledge of
Chinese culture, Charles is quickly recommended as the ideal guide to
anyone traveling in China.
In 1999, Charles met Qigong Master Zhou Hong, who was working as a
healthcare professional in the West Sea Hotel in the Yellow
Mountains. Since then, Charles has worked closely with Zhou Hong as
his interpreter and assistant. In 2002, Charles accompanied Zhou Hong
to the States where they lectured at several colleges and institutes
including Sarasota-based College of East and West Medicine, Austin
Oriental Medical College and Rising Tide International.
